20 lessons learned from my 20 years of Life

As I enter a new decade of my life, I want to take time to reflect on what I have learned thus far. I still have a lot of figuring out to do of course, but through the trials and tribulations that life has thrown at me I have certainly learned how to adapt, adjust, and accomplish despite unlikely odds. I am so grateful for all the smiles, tears, heartbreaks, “no’s”, and breakdowns they these years have brought, because they have built me into the woman I am becoming today. Here are the lessons that I have learned that I will continue to carry with me during this new chapter:

 20 lessons:

  1. Vulnerability is human and beautiful, don’t run from it.

  2. Take time to check in on yourself just as much as you check up on others.

  3. Compassion builds and nurtures connection.

  4. Dance in the mirror, you look good love.

  5. Put yourself first, for once.

  6. Nature can be a source of refuge, go outside and enjoy it.

  7. Don’t sweat the small things.

  8. Therapy truly saved my life.

  9. There is nothing wrong with saying no. In fact, it can be empowering.

  10. In times of uncertainty or doubt, think: Does this serve me? Does this add or subtract to my life? The answer to these questions will tell you all that you need to know.

  11. Oftentimes, you are the only one that is holding you back.

  12. God is there for you in both the lows and the highs-- lean on Him. Thank Him for all the good He is doing, and don’t just rely on him in times of need.

  13. Acknowledge your capacity and voice it to others.

  14. Social media is not always healthy-- take breaks from it without need for apology or explanation.

  15. If you don’t forgive yourself first, how do you expect others to forgive you?

  16. Be selective with who and what you share your time and space with.

  17. Setting boundaries is a part of life, and there is no reason to feel guilt or shame in doing so. It is your life, and you set the rules.

  18. Surround yourself with people and things that align with your energy and encourage you to elevate.

  19. Relinquish a need to control the things that are simply out of your control.

  20. As cliché as it sounds, life is short -- make the most of every second, every day, every week, every month, and every year.
