Loving Every Crevice: A Conversation on Body Image and Self-Love with Alexis

The person we spend the most time with on Earth is ourselves, in our own living and breathing bodies. During February, the month that honors Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, we wanted to take time to remind ourselves of the worth and beauty of our bodies, especially as Black women. Grounded in a spiritual and wellness perspective, this mini-podcast conversation is an informal way to formally analyze what it means to heal and tend to our bodies’ many needs and changes. We discuss yoga as a practice of communion with our bodies, what it means to consider our bodies as “earthly vessels” under God, and how we can listen better to our bodies always.

Together, we want to normalize adorning our bodies with grace, affirmation, and patience. Together, we want to normalize focusing on what our bodies do for us, rather than shackling them to unrealistic expectations, comparisons, and negativity. Together, we want to normalize taking up space for our bodies and taking our bodies out of spaces that do not serve them. Together, we want to learn to love every crevice, every scar, every bump, every bruise, and every curve of our own bodies.

Meet Alexis (she/her):

As a recently certified yoga instructor, Alexis has found a way to blend and integrate her love for creating in almost any medium she desires. She fell in love with yoga during the pandemic and wanted to dive deeper into yoga by completing a 200 hour yoga teacher program. Her journey through the program was transformational as she was able to reunite her mind, body, and soul.
