a prayer for those struggling with their faith

Father God,

Are you there?

Sometimes You feel so far away from me,

And my connection to You begins to wither like a dying flower

Or a fallen leaf from a tree as the weather begins to chill.

It seems that You have left me here alone,

And that Your warmth and light have begun to fade.

I wonder: If you really love me so much, why would you subject me to so much pain? Why would you let go of my hand when I needed you most?

It makes in hard to trust in You,

Believe in You,

Express my love for You,

When the world is crumbling around me and You seem to just be watching.

But in those moments of isolation, desolation, and fear,

I remember to lean upon this scripture to hold me up and remind me of Your power:

“Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

Those mighty words from James 1:3 empower me to persevere and trust fully in You,

Through every test, every trial, and every tribulation,

Because my faith is fortified and strengthened through these tests.

Faith reminds us to believe that something better and more bountiful is in the cards for us,

Because You have already planned it for us.

Faith reminds us to forgive even when we do not want to,

Because our hearts and minds will feel so much lighter if we let You take the reins.

Faith reminds us to have courage and confidence in ourselves and our potential,

Because if we do not try at all, we fail.

Faith reminds us to keep hoping and praying even when You feel miles away,

Because You are always listening and working for our good even when it feels like we are walking aimlessly through the world.

Faith,

Undeniable and unwavering faith,

Helps us trust that we can blossom from that dying flower to a plentiful garden.

Amen.
